Poltava and Slovak partners seek solutions for education in challenging conditions

Continuity of teaching, support for teachers and the safe use of digital tools were the main topics of working talks at Poltava City Council.

Keeping education accessible and functioning even under security restrictions places exceptional organisational demands on Ukrainian schools. These challenges were taken up at a working meeting on 19 May 2026 at Poltava City Council, where cooperation with expert partners from Slovakia was discussed.

The discussion covered distance and hybrid teaching, digital content, reducing teachers’ administrative workload and modernising the school environment. Participants looked at how to adapt solutions to the real conditions of local schools rather than introducing technologies without a clear educational aim.

A pilot project should respond to concrete needs

The talks addressed the possibility of selecting an educational institution in which suitable tools could be piloted with expert and service support. Before implementation, the scope of testing, the technical conditions, the way teachers will be involved and the evaluation criteria still need to be set. On the basis of the available information, neither the choice of a school nor the launch of the pilot can yet be described as a completed step.

The non-governmental organisation Mayors of Slovakia helps build contacts between Poltava, Slovak experts and possible further partners, including ZMOS. The outcome of the meeting was an interest in continuing to prepare concrete options for cooperation. The city’s priority is that any innovations should support teachers and help maintain the quality of teaching in difficult conditions.
