In developing their schools, rural municipalities often face different conditions from large cities. The availability of expert capacity, material equipment and opportunities for teachers’ further training can determine how new approaches find their way into teaching. These questions formed the natural framework for a working meeting with the Drahivska rural territorial hromada in the Zakarpattia Region on 15 September 2026.
Practical support instead of one-off solutions
Representatives of the hromada and of the non-governmental organisation Mayors of Slovakia discussed the potential of Slovak–Ukrainian expert cooperation. Attention was given to the exchange of experience, teachers’ digital skills and the possibilities of gradually introducing modern educational tools into local schools.
An important starting point is to involve teachers themselves in identifying needs and choosing suitable activities. Expert consultations, methodological assistance or a smaller pilot project can provide a school with experience on which to judge the next steps. Such an approach takes into account the differing possibilities of individual municipalities and does not assume that one technical solution will suit everyone.
The meeting provided an initial framework for further dialogue with potential Slovak partners. The priority remains that any cooperation should be based on the concrete needs of local schools and support long-term educational opportunities for children and teachers.
