On 26 and 27 May 2026 the Incheba congress centre in Bratislava hosted the 38th Assembly of the Association of Towns and Municipalities of Slovakia (ZMOS). Delegates and guests from public administration, expert institutions and partner organisations discussed the conditions under which Slovak municipalities will provide services to their residents in the coming years.
The funding of towns and municipalities, the scope of their powers and the stability of public services were at the forefront. The meeting also touched on the consolidation of public finances, the reform of public administration and the preparation of the next programming period of European funds after 2028. For municipalities these are questions that affect investment, planning and the availability of basic services.
Mayors of Slovakia also attended the event as a partner non-governmental organisation of ZMOS. The Assembly was an opportunity to talk with representatives of towns and municipalities about their needs and about where expert exchange, digitalisation or international partnership can help. The conversations naturally also touched on opportunities for cooperation with municipalities in the Czech Republic and Ukraine.
In the long run, predictable rules matter, and so does the ability to prepare projects that match local priorities. Taking part in the Assembly therefore fits into the association’s wider work: connecting the public sector with experts and partners so that the result is not just meetings but feasible solutions for the territory.
